Nerd time again

Ok here is some ideas im throwing out there that i am planning on doing for the Littlefield grid and opensim.

First off for LFG exclusively.

1. Little Tech which will provide LFG residence with tv, radio, vendor, rental service. Of course all for free, no money transaction at all since LFG is 100% free commerce grid.
LT will also provide other script stuff. For example i just did a quick script box that when you say "this is madness" close to the box it will say in chat "THIS... IS... SPARTA!" and play the sound clip from the 300 movie. Also plan on doing a Evil Title script and the Fart-O-Matic.
LT will also be my new mesh and prim work store/company as well as any crappy textures i do.

2. a town with rentable shops called Vampire City. (yes im going somewhere with this so keep reading)
3. since im actually thinking of hosting my own sims, all my sims will use the bulletsim physics so another sim i like to do will be a first person shooter sim where residence can rp as a vampire and shoot mortals, zombies and werewolves.
4. Since Walter's Memory Alpha is going to be the tele hub to all sci-fi museums i like to do a star trek museum and probably call the sim Earth Space Dock.

Now before i get into hypergrid stuff let me explain some planned changes.

You can kiss V Life Online goodbye. I actually always hated that name from the start since my gf at the time help me decide on a name for a website. Now that she is out of my life for good i think its time to fully get rid of her by getting rid of that name. So goodbye V Life and say hello to Little Tech.

LT wont be just LFG exclusive "play" company but i hope a legit free company for all hypergrid enabled grids. With that said lets move on.

Remember my idea before for hypergrid? yea im still going to do it. If you dont know wtf im talking about, let me do a quick run down of what i was working on before.

1. Hypergrid wide advertising aka HyperAds. This will include multiple ad boards that will display ads from other grids. These ads will only be placed into the system by the company/parcel's owner, not by me.
2. HyperRings. Rez a hyperring to have others tp to your place and be able to hypergrid tp to other rings.
3. HyperVote. You know all those voting boxes? Same deal but hypergrid wide with anti-cheating.

So what will make my plans better then whats already out there? I really don't know and i really don't care if no one uses my products. Im doing it because i want to and not ask for money to use my stuff. I guess the 100% FREE is the only diff. I will however have a small paypal donate button on the site for those that do want to donate money but im not going to force people to pay or beg for donations.
Little Tech will always be 100% not-for-profit / free comapny for as long as i live.
Oh also some scripts that i do for LFG and HG will be open source and up on my github repo for others to use and mod and/or to use as a example for learning LSL/OSSL.

Stay tuned for more info and a progress update since this will take me some time to do and money i barely have.

Homeless in Hamilton Ontario Canada

First off I'm not homeless yet thankfully but it just dawned on me that while this city takes down old buildings to put up new ones there is still the main problem of people living on the streets without a proper home. Like WTF city hall? How about putting that money into helping these people out instead of helping those that already have money.
"they chose to be homeless"
Excuse me but since when is it the homeless's fault for high price taxes and no jobs?
"What can we as city hall do to help?"
EASY!
Tell those rich basters to fuck off and build homeless shelters and programs to help those people get off the street and into a job and a apartment.

There are so many empty and abandoned places around this city that can very easily be converted into a shelter and/or affordable apartment buildings for the homeless / very low income people.

And if you think bringing in more business will help them, trust me it wont. All these new companies require grade 12 or higher and i can bet money that the majority of homeless people in our city don't have a grade 12 graduate, i know i sure don't and can't afford to go back to school. I'm just lucky that i companies like Sheprott K-9 Security and Guarda took me on as a security guard when they did but I couldn't get hired by any other security company because of my lack of education. Same goes for those that don't even have a income.

Anyways i think it would be nice to at least see some kind of effort by city council doing something about helping the homeless.

Did this blog and the tweet i sent to #hamont because every time i go downtime i feel bad when i see people walking around that don't have a home to go to and have to depend on extra change dropped by the kind people just so they can have a chocolate bar for the day.

And theres my rant for today. Tomorrow's blog will be a nerd related blog about what i got planned on a opensim grid called Littlefield Grid.

The truth about Canada

I recently went out to walmart and notice the huge increase of selfishness, ignorance and disrespect and thought WTF!

Most people around the world think they we Canadians are so nice and polite but the truth is we aren't any more. We seem to only keep pretending to be nice and polite when it comes to other countries but truth be told we as a nation have become nothing more than a selfish, self center, arrogant, ignorant, disrespecting, greedy people. Seems like people these days don't give a s about the law or each other and i am getting very tired of it.

We Canadians at one time (like 10 years ago) use to be nice, polite and respectful of others and i fear that we are spiralling into anarchy if we don't revert back to the way we use to be.

I love this country and the people but I'm also scared for everyone and this great beautiful land at the same time.

So there is my rant for today. Sorry that it's been a week since my last blog. Was still recovering from my surgery.
New blog tomorrow or tonight about something else.

My recap of the first annual Open Simulator Community Conference

Well the first annual opensim community conference is over and even though the first day was hella boring today was alright.

I personally am very picky of which seminar i attend but i did go to two. First one was about Virtual Currency and learned alot there. Mostly becoming scared as shit to sell anything virtual thanks to the new law in the USA. I can understand why the americans made that law but it now scares those on a government pension who are looking for a easy quick way to become self employed with a steady income to get off of the pension.

Second one was the great and mighty Justin Clark-Casey talking about the ever confusing config ini files for Open Sim which cleared up alot of confusion for me. So thank you JC for un-confusing me with the config.

Anyways during the break i was not only able to take some pics but met up with some old friends and thanks to them clearing up a misunderstanding which led to me leaving i will be making my return to the virtual opensim world. This time with a new idea hopefully exclusively for LFGrid. (LFG is HG enable so you all can jump on over to see my work). Anyways heres some cool parcel designs of sponsor grids.

Can't wait till next year. Am thinking however of donating a full sim just to make a all gaming sim for all the gamers that uses opensim. Games like casino's, amusement park stuff, and other games all of course would be free to demonstrate that you can still have fun in any virtual world powered by opensim.

Thanks for reading this. Won't be blogging for afew days because of my surgery in afew hours which i have to be put to sleep for and got alot of catching up to do since i have not done any dev work since thursday.

Bye.

OpenSim over Second Life

As some people know Second Life is a virtual reality environment, NOT A GAME, that lets its users create their own world and life, hence the name Second Life. HOWEVER a few years ago a few people started to develop a off shoot of the SL server and called it Open Simulator and made the code free open source, hence that name OPEN SIM.

(if you want to know more about SL and OS please google "What is Second Life")

Lately there has been alot of SL vs OS fighting on the interwebz with socialist like me.
Well I'm doing this blog to put in my 2 cents why I think OS is better for the 3d virtual world experience.

In just the past few months Linden Labs, who owns Second Life, has screwed over 3rd party linden exchanges and european residence at the same time by making the exchanges "illegal". Even though I was not screwed over for this in any way because I'm Canadian I still made a huge boycott stand against this action by LL. Mostly in favor of those who live in countries that can't buy L$ directly from Linden Labs and have to buy from a 3rd party like VirWox and AnshiX. My second reason for the boycott was because I found it unfair that all these 3rd party exchanges have been in business for years buying and selling Linden dollars to SL residence and their owners were living off of that money. So for LL to do that right out of the blue without prior notice or warning was total BS.
Well what you know about 2 weeks later the noobs at LL created a "authorized reseller" program so residence can still buy LL. However these 3rd parties couldn't buy L$. Well how the F do you expect them to sell L$ if they can't stock up on them from buying. Yea sure AnshiX is stocking up by selling parcels, but what about VirWox and others that only exchange currency? Anyways i boycott on that is still kinda going. And thats reason one why SL sucks.
Reason 2 is that lately they been releasing alot of laggy updates to their servers, mostly due to the new server side baking. Yea its great and all, fast loading of my avi, but thats on a completely diffrent server. So if that server ever crashed or went into maintance we all be a cloud. Nice going LL.

Reason 3! There is absolutely NOTHING to do in SL without money. Can't have your own piece of land, can't go explore SL, can't do jack s**t without spending money in some way. Oh ya there are social spots but that gets boring and full of drama which brings me to reason 4.
4. There are way to many ADULTS that act like children in SL. Like come on. If your 50, ACT FIFTY, NOT FIFTEEN! "he cheated on me with some blonde in rl." so? aren't you married in real life? So its ok for you to cheat on your husband with some guy in a virtual world but not ok for your virtual bf to cheat on you with someone in real life? "its not the same thing." Really? Rethink that please.

So yea theres SL. OpenSim kinda still has number 4 but they more spread out throughout the grids. Thats right i said gridS. Not one world owned by 1 fat big wig like SL, but by multiple owners owning their own version of a virtual world. And even though some of them may be over weight (dont worry so am i) they sure as hell ain't doing it for the money. These owners are either helping out with the Open Sim project or have staff that are.
In a way, everyone who uses OpenSim is contributing to the project. By either in world designs like meshing, texturing, sound, scripting. Or by helping out with the coding by contributing their work to the project.
Furthermore, with the help of Hypergrid (exclusively to OpenSim) all those grids become 1 by allowing residence to teleport from one grid to another. Like I can teleport from the offical OpenSim grid to End of the Metaverse grid by either using my in world map or in world landmark. SL is just one private grid where you can not teleport in from a OS grid or to a OS grid.

Anyways thanks to my ADHD i totally lost focus on this xD anyways the first annual Open Sim Conference is this weekend so i will do a blog about it sunday night before my surgery.

Vampire City and BloodBathServer progress

I regret to do this but i have no choise for afew reasons. I have to use a premade server for my Vampire City game for now. It will just be to design and code a concept and possibly get people interested in my multiplayer game idea. Here are the reasons why I have decided to do this.

1. I SUCK AT JAVA!

2. Because I suck at java I can't figure out why my BloodBathServer keeps hanging on allowing players to connect to it.
For you java coders I'm having a problem with Socket socket = serverSocket.accept();

3. Right now I really need to just focus on the game itself then spend months on a crashy open source server.

Now even though I'm putting BBS development on hold for now doesn't mean it's dead. It just means that development will resume later when i learn more about java.
But that doesn't mean there will be a first alpha in the next few days, i still got alot of scripting to do to the client as well as alot of meshing. First concept idea will probably be a pre alpha test with the city some what done with basic game play.

Expected development time for a pre alpha is about 2 to 6 months due to me getting all my teeths removed on monday and i really want to have ice cream after that and enjoy all the foods i haven't had for awhile. I will also be at the first annual Open Sim Conference so i will be busy with that.
I am a gamer myself mostly into multiplayer MMO's like WoW which i just resubscribed to 2 hours ago. I got other projects to do like my websites. I have a job (kinda) installing and setting up game servers for Unix C Hosting (right now just Minecraft but looking into offering OpenSim hosting). And i still got alot to learn about making a game which includes improving my skills with 3d modeling using Blender and texturing those models using GIMP and Paint.NET.

However any and all help is welcomed. If you like to know more about my Vampire City game idea please see my other blog called My Vampire City game idea. If you like my idea and are interested in helping please email me at chrisx84@live.ca or on g+, my gmail is chrisx8416@gmail.com

Thanks for reading this. Have a great day.

11 years of no school

Ok i'm 29 now and turning 30 Jan 16 2014 and been out of school since June 2002. Since then I have had many jobs. Started working as a landscaper cutting grass and planting flowers, then i went into general labour work where i did all sorts of jobs, placing product onto a skid, taking them off a skid to be either processed or sold, loading and unloading trucks, and putting "sleeves" on bottles. But those all ended when in 2005 at the age of 21 i applied to a security guard company and was hired on the spot and for the next 5 years really changed my life. Not only did i learn first hand and in the field how to be a awesome security guard but i also learned how to grow up and be a outstanding adult. Then the meds i was on for my ADHD started to cause me some serious physical problems was the saddest time of my life. After 5 years as a security guard i was forced to "retire" from not just as a security guard but from working all together. What i did learn while working all those years was that alot of stuff i learned in school really helped me at my jobs. It's funny, as i'm typing this i am starting to realize that yea alot of what i knew how to do was because of school. Like problem solving which i love to do. Working with others to finish a task, even though i have social anxiety and problems working with others.

But there is one thing i didn't get to do in school which i now wish i did. Graduate!
I never got to grade 12, was held back 2 years because of my learning disability. By the time the board of education basicly told me to GTFO at age 18 i was still stick in 10th grade. If i did graduate i would probably still have a job i really love making loads of money. Even though i would do anything to be a security guard again, i do miss school and wish i could of graduated.

So to anyone reading this that is either still in school or has kids that are in school. Please STAY IN SCHOOL! Do whatever you can to graduate because that knowledge will really help you in the long run.

My life now SUCKS! No job, no good enough income because not only am i stuck on ODSP (Ontario Disability Support Program) but most jobs now require at least grade 12. And believe me being on any kind of government living program sucks! $800 a month is all i get which means if i wanted to move out on my own which i really want to, i would have a very rough time affording rent, hydro, food and internet. I pay $400 right now to my mom for this 2 bedroom apartment, the rest is for smokes, my cell phone, snacks because im a fat ass, internet and one server for me to use for websites and game servers just for something to do. I like to be able to get a new computer but its hard to save up, was rough for me to save up for my dentures (that will be another blog rant for later)

Yea since i been on ODSP i have used google alot to learn how to do stuff like make a website, setup a opensim grid, make a multiplayer game. But in the end i keep kicking myself in the ass for not trying harder in school.

So please kids if you don't want to live my life then stay in school and get those grades so you can have a better adult life then what i am now stuck with.

oooooootay

ok so blogger isnt that addicting as i thought. However that is because i been busy with learning java as fast and noobishly as possible.
Learning java has been really fun and progressing really good, therefor development on my BloodBathServer has gone great and just learned some more and understand some stuff alot better tonight so ill implement those changes this week. Anyone can watch my progress on GitHub now since i threw up what i wrote so far and if you know how to export the classes into a executeable jar then your welcome to test out what i made so far.

BloodBath's repo is at https://github.com/chrisx84/BloodBathServer

Next upload i do to the repo will probably have a folder called precompiled which will contain the jar and run.bat for windows users so they can see the console and run.sh for linux / mac users.
If you test it please make sure you have java installed first, if you can run a Craftbukkit server on the computer your going to use BBS on then you have java installed.

Anyways its been alot of fun and cant wait til morning to do more :D

Enjoy learning java like i have. Till next time.
